In this meeting we will explore the nature of paradox and its cousins well beyond basic logic and mathematics into science, language, business, economics, psychology and philosophy. Besides exhibiting paradoxes we will attempt to resolve them where possible and discuss relevant ramifications and adjacencies. A sampling: Zeno’s paradox, the birthday paradox, the two-child paradox, heap of sand paradox, the Ship of Theseus, the Barber paradox, Olber’s paradox, the twin paradox, the liar’s paradox, the Baumol effect (economics), the Dunning-Kruger effect (psychology), the trolley problem (philosophy) and many more.
As a warm up you may want to watch this short video on the Barber paradox, and the first 10 minutes or so of this video on the Dunning-Kruger effect.
